Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2000, $100,000)
The D.C. Community Prevention Partnership, Inc. coalition serves the District of Columbia, a predominantly African-American, urban area with a population of approximately 572,059. Since its inception, The D.C. Community Prevention Partnership, Inc. has recorded a number of significant accomplishments, most notably, implementing programs that identified, surveyed, and provided training for faith-based institutions that serve youth in the D.C. area. In its most recent grant year, the coalition continued to implement its program goals and objectives by conducting coalition-building activities that promote collaboration among other agencies and organizations in order to affect community-wide participation in the reduction of substance abuse among DC youth, hosting "train-the-trainer" workshops for faith-based institutions, youth service organizations and other community based institutions on ATOD and other at-risk behavior prevention needs, and creating an advisory board to provide guidance and direction to the drug-free communities support program project and to assist in its progression.
To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, the D.C. Community Prevention Partnership, Inc. coalition, in its fifth year, will implement the following strategies: 1) developing greater cooperation with other community organizations; 2) improving the drug-free program's recognition in the media and the public in general; 3) extending technical assistance services to other groups; and 4) implementing an effective program evaluation.
