The City of Houston, Mayor's Anti-Gang Office's Truancy Program intends to continue with the development and implementation of a comprehensive truancy reduction and prevention program for the Gulfton community that 1) integrates truancy awareness/prevention into existing or planned Gulfton programs including the Weed and Seed Apartment Outreach Program, the United Minds Youth Group, Campo del Sol summer day camp, and other agency youth and family-serving programs; 2) review past anti-truancy campaigns and incorporate best practice approaches into the Gulfton area school curricula; and educate the business community on truancy laws and how to report truant youth. These services will serve 100 eighth and 150 ninth grade students attending Jane Long Middle School and Robert E. Lee High School in the Gulfton community. The program strategy will be conducted in three phases: Attendance, Referral and Enforcement.CA/NCF
