Project Summary For (S-4)

Madison School District is the fiscal agent for Project NOW. The coalition serves Madison County, Idaho, a rural county of 27,000 people, with the highest poverty rate in the state. In its most recent grant year, the coalition continued to implement its program goals and objectives by organizing afterschool activities for students that include homework assistance; overseeing reading programs; presenting antidrug assemblies to 2,000 students; organizing student community service projects, such as assisting in renovating the community center and collecting 1,000 coats to send to victims of disasters overseas; and holding block parties with the police department to distribute antidrug information. To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community antidrug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies: 1) providing more DARE training; 2) continuing an awareness campaign; 3) continuing Security Concerns and Drug Testing; 4) starting Neighborhood Educational Events; 5) implementing an anti-bully program; 6) offering parenting classes; 7) initiating Youth Action Council activities/service projects; and 8) installing school bus cameras/security system.
