Project Summary for 1999-JN-FX-0033 s4

Fauquier CADRE, Inc. acts as the fiscal agent for the Fauquier CADRE (Community Alliance for Drug Rehabilitation and Education) coalition. The group serves Fauquier County, VA, a quickly growing rural area with a population of approximately 52,300. Since its inception, the CADRE coalition has recorded a number of significant accomplishments, most notably, developing a successful media campaign involving brochures, newsletters, newspapers, television, and a Web site. In addition, the group has been involved with youth education programs such as Tobacco and Sports Don't Mix, I Am In Control, and a high school-based student assistance program.

To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community antidrug coalitions, the CADRE coalition, in its fifth year, will implement the following strategies: 1) continuing to fund a full-time executive director who will work to increase coalition membership and ensure financial sustainability; 2) disseminating a semi-annual newsletter; 3) implementing a countywide media campaign; 4) maintaining Internet resources to deliver youth substance abuse information; 5) implementing a Fifth Grade Transition Group program; 6) implementing a TransParenting Program; 7) implementing a pregnancy prevention program; 8) implementing a Tobacco and Sports Don't Mix Program; and 9) utilizing a survey to assess the effectiveness of community substance abuse reduction initiatives.
