Note:
This awardee has received supplemental funding. This award detail page includes information about the supplemental awards but the information about the original award is unavailable.
The Lucas County Community Prevention Partnership serves Lucas County, OH, a mixed-income community. In its most recent grant year, the coalition continued to implement its program goals and objectives by engaging two service providers to implement K-6 programming in community-based settings; sponsoring more than 2,000 hours of education and training to citizens, prevention professionals, parents, and organizations and making evaluation data from these trainings available to the public; and distributing the biennial Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board Student Survey to all nine schools districts and providing technical assistance to use the information to improve outcomes from prevention programs.
To achieve the two goals of reducing substance abuse among youth and strengthening community anti-drug coalitions, this coalition will implement the following strategies: 1) continuing staff training for alcohol and substance abuse prevention providers; 2) supporting an early childhood substance abuse curriculum; 3) holding informational meetings with schools to examine the results from the 2002 drug and alcohol survey; 4) continuing to develop messages in the media to increase the community's perception of harm and disapproval of substance use; 5) holding four community education sessions on the risks of subtance abuse and how building assets assists in prevention; 6) convening a blue ribbon panel consisting of high-level elected and business professionals; 7) inviting new members to join the partnership; 8) monitoring the implementation of the coalition's strategic plan; and 9) identifying priorities of prevention agencies.
