The National Mentoring Center (NMC) a project of the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) was created and funded in 1998 by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). NMC, in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Public/Private Ventures, provides support to the OJJDP-funded JUMP grantees and other mentoring projects nationwide. During this contract year, the NMC will assist mentoring projects develop and implement evidence-based programs through the provision of services addressing program design, staff and organizational development and program support needs. Services include:
Training and technical assistance in the form of a JUMP Cluster Training, distance training, in-depth technical assistance to JUMP programs and general reference and referral to other mentoring programs.
Information services that include resources on line at the NMC website, a resource and lending library, the Mentor Exchange listserv and provision of reference and referral services.
Development and dissemination of a variety of print and electronic publications including a revision of the core NMC Training curriculum, and the development of a quarterly electronic newsletter (NMC Bulletin) and other mentoring related web-based training content.
Special projects that support the mentoring-related goals of OJJDP and expand state and national capacity to implement coordinated mentoring initiatives.
