PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 98-JD-FX-0005 (S-2)

The goal of the City of Riverside's Project BRIDGE is to expand the model to the entire City while continuing to enhance the delivery of comprehensive service to gang-involved youth and families. The goal of the model being implemented, the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model, is to reduce youth gang crime and violence. The model requires a mix of five interrelated strategies, including community mobilization, social intervention and outreach, opportunities provision, suppression, and organizational change and development. A collaborative process will be used to ensure that the require agencies (police, probation, social services, youth employment, grassroots, etc.) participate and deliver the appropriate mix of services and that the program is reaching the target population. Preliminary evaluation data indicates that this program strategy has been successful in reducing youth gang crime and violence.
