Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 1996, $181,200)
This is a research proposal for the continuation of work under the aegis of the Program of Research on the Correlates and Causes of Delinquency (PRCCD) consisting of secondary data analyses. The secondary data analyses are mostly on existing data from the Pittsburgh Youth Study (PYS), but also involve data analyses on its two sister studies under the PRCCD, the Rochester Youth Development Study (RYDS), and the Denver Youth Survey (DYS). These analyses mine the existing data sets that cover more than a decade of data collection on the course of juvenile violence and serious delinquency in boys enrolled in this study, and the causes that affect that course. This grant also contains a supplemental research proposal for the current grant to establish a subcontract with the University of Washington for secondary data analyses on the data set collected by David Hawkins. The purpose of the latter analyses will be to address key questions pertaining to the overrepresentation of minorities in the juvenile justice system.
