PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 96-JD-FX-0004
The National Juvenile Detention Association(NJDA), in partnership ì
with the Alliance for Juvenile Justice, proposes a clear, multi ì
phase, cost-effective strategy to improve juvenile justice system ì
management and rehabilitation of gang involved youth through a ì
national assessment of the nature and extent of youth gang ì
problems in juvenile confinement facilities. Phase 1, which ì
constitutes this proposal, will collect information through a ì
national survey and reviews of multiple sources of ongoing youth ì
gang research, will develop accurate risk-needs assessment ì
instruments, and will develop the central concepts of a model ì
youth gang program from "best practices" derived from the survey ì
research. Phases 2 and 3, in future proposals, will include the ì
training and dissemination of model programs, and the ì
implantation of the model in selected jurisdictions. NJDA will ì
assemble a Project Team with National expertise on youth gangs ì
and linkages to other key youth gang research projects and ì
programs. This overlap will permit maximum productivity at a ì
minimum cost.
