Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $479,439)
The Maryland State Police, Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children (MDICAC) Task Force will continue to prevent, interdict, investigate, and prosecute Internet crimes against children. The primary goals of this project are as follows: 1) Ensure that the MDICAC and the Department of Maryland State Police continue to play a lead role and be a key resource in protecting children from online sexual predators; 2) Provide advanced education and training for local law enforcement officers and prosecutors; 3) Enhance the ability of MDICAC member agencies to analyze seized digital devices and report the findings of evidence to the requesting law enforcement agency to include establishing procedures for handling evidence; 4) Serve as a resource of information while developing standards to include the education and assistance to Maryland citizens and law enforcement agencies interested in reducing the incidents of computer-facilitated child exploitation; and 5) Continue to maintain and expand the task force affiliates to further combat child exploitation across the state.
