Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $540,000)

Through this project, the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), in collaboration with digital forensics experts, will provide significant enhancements to the EZTriage digital forensics tool. The EZTriage graphical user interface currently integrates four key forensic tools for efficient investigation and prosecution of child sexual exploitation cases. This project will add four additional tools and refine the user interface, increasing the effectiveness and accessibility for ICAC task forces nationwide.

The objectives of this project are to streamline the investigative process, reduce operational costs, and improve the prosecutorial success rates in cases of child sexual exploitation. By enhancing EZTriage, both novice and seasoned investigators will be equipped with a robust tool that operates within forensic soundness, thereby boosting their investigatory capabilities.

The project deliverables are strategically designed to optimize impact: (1) provide advanced EZTriage enhancements that blend existing functionalities with four additional forensic tools, enhancing data extraction and analysis; (2) provide the ability to recover additional forensic artifacts in a forensically sound manner on-scene such that it can be integrated with other investigative activities; (3) provide comprehensive training materials including a revised manual and an instructional video with a testing component to certify users on their proficiency; and (4) provide continued support and updates post-project to ensure the tool remains effective against evolving digital landscapes.
