Project LEAD (Preparing System-Involved Girls to Lead their Reentry Process through Career-Readiness and Youth-Centered Transition Planning) is a collaborative partnership between the University of Alabama and the Alabama Department of Youth Services, which oversees the Brighter Path Juvenile Justice Program located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The overarching goal of Project LEAD is to promote the protective factors of girls in juvenile justice and guide them on a pathway towards success, stability, and independence. The objectives include (a) increasing the educational, individual, and life protective factors of girls to prevent further delinquent behavior by girls involved in secure juvenile justice facilities and (b) improving the juvenile justice system educational responses for girls in contact with the juvenile justice system.
