Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $650,000)

Big Brother Big Sisters of Rockland County will expand its successful mentoring program Rockland Alive Mentoring Program to increase the number of youth to be serviced who are currently negatively impacted by opioids and drug abuse, including Orthodox Jewish youth, a previously unreached and underserved community. Knowing that the strength of our mentoring program relies on the impact of trained mentors, Big Brother Big Sisters of Rockland County will continue to provide support to youth who are impacted by personal or family member substance misuse to reduce the likelihood that youth will engage in substance abuse and juvenile delinquency. The Rockland Alive Mentoring Program is adding a new partner, the Derech Shalom Center, to expand and enhance interventions to address the unique needs of youth impacted by opioids and drug abuse, such as those who have initiated drug abuse, those who are at risk of initiation of substance misuse, and those with family members who are currently abusing or addicted to alcohol or other substances.
