Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $709,213)
The Baltimore County Second Chance for Children project will provide dedicated services in a county with a high percentage of recidivism for youth returning to the community. Services will address educational needs for a full year after youth return to the community. Reentry specialists with lived experience in the juvenile system and a social worker with clinical experience will support project participants in overcoming barriers to treatment and securing appropriate education for each individual’s needs. The project will be based in a juvenile defender office so the project can coordinate with legal proceedings without extending court monitoring or Department of Juvenile Services supervision unnecessarily. The pilot project will focus on youth in Baltimore County and provide a replicable model for all of Maryland and defense offices across the country.
