The proposed project will support North Carolina’s Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s mission and aim to improve cost savings and reinvestment by ensuring that the intervention, treatment, and education provided in the secure facilities aligns with best practices. The project will achieve three objectives: (1) develop the Youth Facility Assessment for Best Practice, (2) use the Youth Facility Assessment for Best Practice to assess North Carolina’s juvenile facilities for alignment with best practice, and (3) use the results of the Youth Facility Assessment for Best Practice to develop an action plan to improve alignment of policies, practices, and programming within North Carolina juvenile facilities with best practice. Vital to the project’s success will be the voice of youth and families at all stages of the project, brought to fruition through two project consultant roles, the Family Voice Consultant and the Youth Voice Consultant.
