Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $560,080)

Justice Innovation Inc. (dba Center for Justice Innovation), through its Queens Community Justice Center-The Rockaways proposes to increase protective factors to prevent further delinquent behavior by girls and gender-expansive youth by implementing A Sister’s Hand. The proposed program relies on a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to provide mentoring, case management, leadership development, and evidence-based programming to divert girls and gender-expansive youth—with a focus on those of color—from violence and justice system involvement while supporting their collective healing and healthy development as young people. Queens Community Justice Center-The Rockaways will also work to improve juvenile justice system responses for girls and gender-expansive youth by providing regular trainings for family court judges, family court attorneys, and probation officers on the challenges and strengths of justice-involved girls and gender-expansive youth.
