Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $560,081)

The Shelby County Board of Education will build on an existing partnership between Memphis-Shelby County Schools and the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County to enhance Project STAND, an existing early intervention program, so that it more fully meets the specific needs of justice-involved girls. The proposed program aims to increase protective factors for girls by providing services such as intensive wraparound mentorship, school-based interventions to reduce exclusion, youth participatory action research, gender-responsive and evidence-based practices, and more. Youth participatory action research will be used to provide innovative and powerful strategies to help drive improvements in services for justice-involved girls. This project’s focus on youth voice will result in a new training curriculum for Juvenile Court.
