Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $425,381)

The Office of the State Public Defender is engaging in the Phase 2 Expansion of the East Baton Rouge Advanced Advocacy Project – a joint-partnership between the East Baton Rouge Office of the Public Defender and this proposal’s sub-grantee, the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights. With Phase 2, Advanced Advocacy will address the major gaps that hinder its ability to serve more children. It will add a paralegal to better coordinate between the attorney and social work teams and free up attorney capacity by relieving them of much of their case-related administrative tasks. Phase 2 will also add a field investigator/intake specialist to streamline the intake/social work referral process and increase capacity for robust investigatory fieldwork.
