Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $600,000)

The University of New Haven will implement the “Improving the lives of youth in Connecticut” to continue its work to address Racial and Ethnic Disparities and increase diversion. The goal of this program, in collaboration with three sub-awardees, is to provide every opportunity for youth to be successful by focusing on reducing RED in youth in diversion and placement, providing restorative practices in elementary schools to address exclusionary discipline, and addressing gender responsivity in the handling of youth in the system. This goal aligns with the work of the State of Connecticut’s Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee (JJPOC) and its commitment to integrating and sustaining meaningful youth and family partnerships.
