Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $248,462)
The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa purposes to improve emergency planning and management strategies for our juvenile residential facility with a primary focus on family input and involvement in our process and implementation. The goal of the program is to ensure our Little Shell Youth Residential Center is prepared to continue operations, prioritize the safety and well-being of youth and staff, and reduce damage to the physical facility during and after an emergency. In order to achieve this goal, the Tribe has determined the following objectives: hire a coordinator and a consultant to ensure we meet goal, objectives, and proposed scope of work; develop and conduct a risk assessment to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities; develop an emergency operations plan that covers roles and responsibilities, procedures, resources, training, and exercises; establish and maintain partnerships and agreements with other agencies and organizations that can provide support and assistance during an emergency; implement the emergency operations plan and evaluate its effectiveness and efficiency; ensure that tribal data is collected, maintained, reported, and used as a management tool for program decision making; and ensure that cultural relevancy is incorporated into the proposed project.
