The Family-Centered Drug Treatment Court will use a collaborative, family-centered approach and operate as an alternative to traditional family courts by using trauma-informed methods to balance the rights and needs of both parents and children. The overall goal of the program is to reduce child maltreatment by treating parental substance use disorder with collaboration from the court system, child protective services, substance use treatment providers, and attorneys involved in the case. This program will be modeled after the adult drug court and address parental substance use and child neglect in an appropriate, timely manner. The court will foster long-term stabilized recovery and promote family reunification while also protecting the best interests of the child.
