Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,000,000)

The Hoopa Valley Tribe seeks funding to enhance and expand its existing Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court (JHWC) program, which provides culturally responsive, evidence-based substance use disorder treatment to court-involved youth and their families. The JHWC program aims to better address the root causes of youth involvement in the juvenile justice system, including substance use, truancy, and other school-related offenses. The project's objectives are to improve access to and availability of JHWC treatment services, increase the number of individuals served, and enhance the quality of treatment services by adding evidence-based treatment approaches and new treatment services to address emerging trends. This project builds on the Tribe's steadfast vision and ability to successfully implement programs that address the root causes of youth involvement in the juvenile justice system and support the health and well-being of the Hoopa Valley Tribe community.
