NSA OJJDP TTA Program

The National Sheriffs’ Association proposes to implement the Training and Technical Assistance Formula Grants Program.  The purpose of the program is to provide training and technical assistance to support states and territories in their implementation of their Title II Part B Formula Grant program.  The Association will offer them access to skilled, tailored, on-site and virtual support designed to strengthen their capacity to comply with the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act core requirements.

            Project activities include developing a toolkit for states and localities on how to comply with the jail removal core requirement, and to provide training and on-site technical assistance to sites identified by OJJDP (or that self-identify) as having difficulty complying with the jail removal core requirement.  The project will also include related activities as determined in coordination with OJJDP.  Outcomes include the development of a multi-disciplinary working group team to support states and localities with JJDP Act core requirements to ensure the welfare of youthful offenders.

            The project partners are consultants who have expertise in the area of jails and juvenile justice including, but not limited to the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ); Sheriff Paul Laney (Ret.); Captain Jason Gould, Jail Administrator, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office; and Lisa Jahner, Program Director, North Dakota Association of Counties.
