Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $384,598)
The South Dakota ICAC Task Force plans to use the FY2022 Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program grant monies to address personnel needs, technology, and training to support protection of children from exploitation via technology. The funding will support training and technology to enhance existing efforts in the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of child sexual predators. The targeted population benefiting from this effort is children, both identified and unidentified, who are victims of Internet exploitation.
The funding will assist efforts in the following areas: maintenance of a task force commander position and supplies (hardware/software) that will be updated to enhance investigative efforts and provide personnel with necessary tools. The ICAC task force will also continue to host trainings. The short-term goal is to address staffing and equipment maintenance; the long-term goal is a timelier investigative effort resulting in successful prosecutions. Progress will be measured through accountability data reported monthly.
