Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $800,591)
The Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (MIICAC) is the lead agency in the state of Michigan for investigating digital crimes and conducting forensic analysis of digital media. The task force provides both investigative and forensic support for over 570 law enforcement agencies. The MIICAC strives to improve effectiveness in responding to online enticement of children by sexual predators as well as child exploitation, child obscenity, and child sexually abusive material by maintaining and expanding state and regional task forces to prevent, interdict, investigate, and prosecute Internet crimes against children. The MIICAC will increase investigative efforts by providing training, software, and hardware support to maintain current prosecutorial success rates for forensic data recovery specialists and high-tech crime training events. MIICAC will continue to provide training to affiliates, increase public awareness and education regarding Internet and emerging technology safety issues related to the sexual exploitation of children. MIICAC will successfully prevent, interdict, investigate, and prosecute Internet crimes against children. Progress towards the goals and objectives of this program will be measured through accountability data reported to OJJDP.
