Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $345,113)
Since 2010, the Maine Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) implemented dramatic changes to its role in child sexual abuse material. The Unit has grown from a primarily forensic analytical unit into a full investigatory and forensic unit. The CCU is the technical response unit for all criminal investigations with a need for such expertise. The primary responsibilities of the Maine Task Force are to investigate and prosecute offenders; examine digital evidence; and provide prevention in the form of education and public awareness.
Grant funds provide equipment and training for the task force and affiliate examiners and investigators. The success is measured by an analysis of statistics. Indicators include the number of presentations/attendees, forensic exams completed, individuals sent to training, and technical assist requests fulfilled. The task force will continue to educate the public, investigate and prosecute technology facilitated crimes against children.
