Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $500,000)
NW3C will develop and deliver training programs, webinars, and conference presentations focused on the utilization of tools and investigative techniques for recovering digital evidence from devices, including but not limited to, personal computers, smartphones, tablet computers, wireless networks, wearables and Internet of Thing devices drones, video games, and the processing of legally obtained data records from service providers. Training will be made available to ICAC Task Force members and affiliates, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, computer forensic specialists, and other related partnering agencies and organizations to improve the investigative, prosecutorial, and forensic response to digital evidence-related crimes against children throughout the country. NW3C will develop new course content to include advanced Linux forensics and digital evidence foundations for prosecutors. Additionally, NW3C will partner with Medex Forensics to create a new video forensic analysis course. NW3C will work with existing partners and subject matter experts improve overall investigative capabilities; and create and distribute guidelines, best practices, and investigative methodologies. NW3C will employ the existing ICAC registration system managed by Fox Valley Technical College, while utilizing established NW3C evaluation methodologies, including pre-and post-class testing assessments, to measure and report progress to OJJDP. NW3C will also identify, develop, and deliver webinars on timely, relevant, and emerging topic areas for the ICAC Task Forces and affiliates. NW3C will coordinate these topics with OJJDP and comply with the OJJDP guidelines. Lastly, NW3C will provide technical assistance to aid the ICAC Task Forces in the investigation of child exploitation and the examination of electronic devices.
