Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $66,500)

This program will be in partnership with Focus On Me: a trauma-informed digital storytelling program designed to empower youth involved in the foster care and juvenile justice systems by giving them the tools and teaching them the skills to conceive, create and complete a short film about themselves. The curriculum will also include therapy and coping techniques from CASA DC’s Clinical Social Worker. In addition, expanding on high-quality, culturally relevant, and responsive art methods for justice-involved racial and ethnic minority youth. This program will connect art and therapy as a way for youth to learn new skills, heal from trauma, and find a way to express themselves. Expected outcomes are the reduction of juvenile delinquency, recidivism, and other problem and high-risk behaviors.
