Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $250,000)

Coconino County Juvenile Court Services (CCJC) has a mission of “Building Brighter Futures” and believes that all families are capable of success. CCJC is committed to providing services and supports to help families thrive.  Funding for a Family Treatment Court (FTC) would allow for coordination of community service providers to come together to treat substance use disorders in parents who are trying to reunify their family. It would enable CCJC to tailor services to Native American families who are overrepresented in Coconino County’s dependency court. The funding would also allow CCJC to hire a Peer Recovery Support Specialist to advocate for and encourage parents through their recovery. In addition, the funds would provide for our contracted, licensed therapist to facilitate a Parents Group for FTC participants.   It is the goal of CCJC that adding an FTC will result in children being reunified with their parents at a higher rate and be returned to their parents’ care sooner following a removal. As a result of the skills learned from FTC, parents will be better equipped to maintain their recovery and to handle the stresses of parenting.
