Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $766,944)
The Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) will increase public safety and reduce recidivism among moderate and high-risk Travis County youth by focusing on five specific objectives: provide comprehensive support services through an innovative reentry model called Strengthening Opportunities for Achieving Reentry (SOAR); improve care coordination and family engagement support services for youth placed in residential facilities outside of Travis County; empower youth to fully participate in the digital society and increase their employability through digital skills training, workforce development, and hands-on job training; launch a TCJPD Virtual Resource Center (VRC) to connect youth and families with community support services that are critical to a safe and successful transition; and, convene a Juvenile Reentry Task Force to identify strategies to improve reentry outcomes and address racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system.
