Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $766,944)
The Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) will increase public safety and reduce recidivism among moderate and high-risk Travis County youth by focusing on five specific objectives:
1. provide comprehensive support services through an innovative reentry model called Strengthening Opportunities for Achieving Reentry (SOAR);
2. improve care coordination and family engagement supports services for Regional Placement Program (RPP) youth placed in the Intermediate Sanctions Center (ISC) and improve care coordination and family engagement support services for youth placed in residential facilities outside of Travis County.
3. provide opportunities for youth to engage in a creative outlet, while empowering youth to fully participate in the digital society and increase their employability through digital skills training, workforce development, and hands-on job training to include training and hands-on experience in a mobile recording studio;
4. launch a TCJPD Virtual Resource Center (VRC) to connect youth and families with community support services that are critical to a safe and successful transition;
5. convene a Juvenile Reentry Advisory Committee to identify strategies to improve reentry outcomes and address racial and ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system.
