Volunteers of America of Los Angeles will implement a comprehensive, case management-based program that addresses criminogenic risks and needs to ensure a safe and successful reentry for medium- to high-risk youth exiting Los Angeles County Juvenile Detention Facilities, with a focus on South Los Angeles and Compton. VOALA will partner with Los Angeles County Probation Department to implement services. Pre-release services will include case management, housing planning, life skills, and mentoring. Post-release services will include case management, housing placement, mentoring, and linkages to supportive services (employment, healthcare, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, education, life skills, and civil legal assistance). The overarching program goal is to help youth reintegrate into the community following release from juvenile detention and reduce recidivism rates amongst those served. Program objectives include improving family reunification and family stability, economic stability, housing stability, behavioral and mental health, and reducing and substance use post-release.
