Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $702,864)

Penquis CAP, Inc, a local nonprofit organization that impacts Maine’s sixteen counties, will use funding to prevent the early use of addictive substances by children, youth, and young adults through six strategies: (1) supporting healthy early childhood development; (2) reducing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs); (3) promoting life skills and resilience-building for all youth; (4) identifying and supporting youth and young adults at risk of developing a substance use disorder; (5) supporting and expanding community partnerships to educate and engage youth, families, and communities; and (6) implementing and sustaining COVID response, recovery and resiliency strategies. Through the utilization of remote programming, they will vastly expand service delivery to local regions in Maine. The applicant also received priority consideration by including policies, practices, and /or procedures that are responsive to DOJ priorities.
