Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $500,000)

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation (MCN) Tribal Juvenile Justice Program will use grant funds to: 1) develop a strategic plan, 2) establish and implement services and supports to ensure gun violence and gang violence intervention, 3) implement substance abuse services and supports for youth, and 4) hire a Tribal Juvenile Justice Advocate. The Advocate will assist in responding to juvenile delinquents, transporting youth, mitigating truancy, and investigating of juvenile cases. The Advocate will also provide education and outreach to internal and external law enforcement agencies within the reservation on juvenile and trauma centered approaches. The primary goal of the MCN Tribal Juvenile Justice Program is to assist Native American youth ages 10-18 through improving the juvenile justice system by constituting sound policy that assures public safety and security while establishing effective juvenile justice programs that promote delinquency prevention and early intervention efforts that reduce the number of juvenile offenders entering into the juvenile justice system.
