This workshop is for individuals exposed to traumatic material and situations during the course of their work. The course is taught by a law enforcement officer and a mental health professional with experience working with law enforcement professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to mental health & wellness. It will offer professionals who may have experienced vicarious trauma and who may interact with offenders (e.g., law enforcement officers, forensic analysts, prosecutors, probation & parole, etc.), the opportunity to learn about the causes and symptoms of negative effects that may occur as a result of their duties and effective mitigation strategies and tools to help them build resilience. Participants will learn about vicarious stress and trauma, the potential psychological impacts from being exposed to traumatic material during the course of an investigation and explore the signs and symptoms of stress reactions.
