This webinar is one in a series being conducted by the Innocent Justice Foundation, an OJJDP-funded provider of SHIFT (Supporting Heroes in Mental Health Foundational Training). The series will address wellness strategies of those in leadership roles to help law enforcement, prosecutors, and other investigative personnel to manage stress from their difficult work in combating child sexual exploitation. This series will walk those in management positions through the necessary wellness steps needed to create an effective team. There will be a focus on mitigating the challenges faced by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force members.

A strong leader recognizes that being in tune with themselves and with the mental wellness of their team members is crucial for individual accountability and optimal team function. Self-compassion is an important part of wellness and an effective tool for enhancing performance.

Self-compassion entails being intentional about caring for one's wellbeing and focusing on growth when there are challenges. Once a well-established wellness plan is in place, the next step is working with the team so they can be aware of their own needs with respect to mental wellness. An effective supervisor understands the importance of connection as a way to lead others, and sees the benefit in building a trusting relationship where others willingly follow.
