Identify the responsibilities of the Public Information Officer (PIO) during a missing child incident and examine why a partnership with the media is vital to quickly recover missing children and solve the cases. Garner preparation tips and employ a checklist to complete the steps of a successful PIO briefing. Examine pitfalls in the police/media relationship and explore ways to overcome them. Roleplay a missing child incident and learn hands-on how to apply what you have learned.

Upon completion of this training, you will develop capabilities to:

  • Define the challenges of the modern PIO
  • Recognize distinguishing characteristics of the AMBER Alert media release
  • Employ effective press conference preparation and management of logistical procedures
  • Identify best approaches to forming media partnerships
