EUDL Program Tackles Underage Drinking
OJJDP’s Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program, the only federal initiative focused exclusively on preventing underage drinking, supports state and local efforts to reduce the availability of alcoholic beverages to minors more
In a 2003 survey, 12 percent of 8th graders,
22 percent of 10th graders, and 28 percent of 12th graders reported
heavy drinkingdefined as 5 or more drinks in a row at
least once in the past 2 weeks. These statistics from the National
Institute on Drug Abuse's "Monitoring the Future" survey
are reported in America's
Children in Brief: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, 2004,
produced by the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family
Statistics. This and many other statistical publications are
available through OJJDP's Statistical
Briefing Book. The
Briefing Book's Compendium of National Data Sets profiles
the Monitoring
the Future survey series.
