More than 90 percent of AMBER Alert's recoveries of abducted children have occurred since October 2002, when a National AMBER Alert Coordinator was appointed. In this role, the Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs
facilitates the
development of the
AMBER network,
supports the
development of
state AMBER plans
and efforts, helps
eliminate geographic gaps in AMBER networks, provides regional AMBER network coordination, and offers guidance on criteria for issuing an AMBER Alert.
