Did You Know?

The Second National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Thrownaway Children (NISMART–2) estimated that 1,315,600 children were missing from their caretakers in 1999—the latest year for which NISMART survey data are available. That estimate includes children who were reported missing and those who were not reported missing.

NISMART findings are reported in a special series of Bulletins available through the OJJDP Web site's publications page (search on "NISMART Series"). General statistical information on juveniles as victims is available through OJJDP's Statistical Briefing Book.
