In 1999, 5.2 percent of surveyed students said they had recently felt too unsafe to go to school (Youth Risk Behavior Survey).
The percent of surveyed youth who feared attack at school or on the way to and from school decreased significantly between 1995 and 2003, from 12% to 6% (Child Trends DataBank).
