Presentations

The Aberdeen High School Choir is brought to you by the Harford County Boys & Girls Club. The club has been in existence since 1989 serving young people from 6 to 18 years of age in the Aberdeen and surrounding Harford County communities. The choir is under the direction of Christine C. Robinson. Piano accompaniment is provided by Mark Grimsley.

The Walbrook Maritime Academy is a federally funded project that meets requirements for graduation and prepares students for opportunities in postsecondary education, local employment, and/or service in the Armed Forces. The faculty is comprised of retired military personnel who work closely with the students, preparing them academically while inculcating them with leadership, social, and citizenship skills. The Color Guard Commander is Cadet Bryan Curry.

The Booker T. Washington Middle School Arts Academy Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Mack Rucks. The ensemble has performed at civic events and retirement communities. The selections include original songs by Mr. Rucks as well as music by Duke Ellington and Horace Silver.

The Dunbar Jazz Ensemble was formed in December 1995 at Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. The ensemble's first performance was at a Christmas program held at Dunbar followed by a performance at the Lexington Market. The ensemble performs regularly for community groups and organizations under the direction of Charles Funn.

The Baltimore Police Youth Choir, a Police Athletic League program, brings 65 youth from 11 to 18 years of age together in a spirit of unity through music. Choir members are required to regularly attend school and maintain a passing grade in all subjects. The Police Athletic League is under the direction of Major Alvin Winkler and the choir is directed by Officer Roderick Dotson.

Art/Written Expression

Art from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Fine Arts Program is on exhibit in the conference area. Local clubs throughout the country participate in this program that is designed to develop an appreciation of art and provide a means of artistic expression. All members who participate receive a certificate of merit from the Boys & Girls Club. Those members whose art is selected for the National Fine Arts exhibit receive a plaque.

The Maryland Boys & Girls Club mural located in the conference area was painted by club members with guidance from Americorps volunteers.

The Do the Write Thing Challenge Program National Campaign to Stop Violence posters in the conference area present quotes from essays by youth around the country that "voice" their solutions to reducing violence in their daily lives through the written word.

The National Endowment for the Arts WritersCorps poster located in the conference area displays poems from school-age youth that represent the impact of life in at-risk communities. The WritersCorps is a national literary community service program in which writers create and teach writing workshops at urban community centers.
