This project will support the development and expansion of state and local programs Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) programs, which serve abused and neglected children in need of advocacy before the courts. The project will enhance the capacity of these programs to recruit, train and supervise qualified volunteers, and support state CASA organizations that increase the capacity of local programs to serve children.

This award will support the operations of the National Children's Alliance (NCA) as the national membership organization and accrediting body of Children's Advocacy Centers. The National Children's Alliance will establish and maintain standards for accreditation among its membership, including local Children's Advocacy Centers, State Chapters of CACs, and multidisciplinary teams providing a coordinated response to child abuse. The National Children's Alliance will conduct accreditation review of its member programs.

The National Juvenile Court Data Archive (the Archive) houses the automated records of cases that courts with juvenile jurisdiction have handled. This solicitation will fund the annual collection, verification, and analysis of data that documents the activities of the juvenile justice court system and its response to law-violating and at-risk youth.

The Family Drug Courts program builds the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized Indian Tribal governments to either implement new drug courts or enhance pre-existing drug courts for individuals with substance abuse disorders or substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, including histories of trauma, who are involved with the family dependency court as a result of child abuse, neglect, and other parenting issues.

The OJJDP FY 2012 Membership Support Services for Nonprofit Missing Children’s Organizations grant will support a membership organization of nonprofit organizations that serve the families of missing and exploited children, provide resources to law enforcement and community agencies that serve missing and exploited children, improve public awareness and education about child protection, and related purposes. The award recipient will develop and implement the 2012 National Intertribal Youth Summit, a culturally appropriate youth leadership conference for at-risk American Indian and Alaska Native youth ages 14 to 17. This effort furthers the Department's mission by supporting the Tribal Justice and Safety initiative to increase engagement, coordination, and action on public safety in Tribal communities. The summit will examine critical Tribal youth issues, such as teen dating violence, substance abuse, suicide, delinquency, and gang involvement, and will focus on leadership development.
