OJJDP FY 2020 Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Program

Juvenile Drug Treatment Courts allow for intensive judicial supervision of youth and the provision of treatment to eligible, drug-involved juvenile offenders with the goal of reducing recidivism and substance abuse. The purpose of this solicitation is to implement new JDTCs and provide support to existing JDTCs to enhance treatment services. Applicants are expected to develop and implement a sustainability plan during the grant period to continue operation of the juvenile drug treatment court when the grant ends.

OJJDP seeks a training and technical assistance provider to establish a regional network of partnerships to develop strategies to address Alaska Native youth's cultural needs and support their successful functioning at home, in school, and in the community in order to build the capacity of Tribal communities across Alaska to address the specific needs and challenges of those who work with Alaska Native youth.

OJJDP FY 2020 Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative

This program supports the implementation and delivery of mentoring services to youth populations that are at risk for juvenile delinquency, victimization, and juvenile justice system involvement. Mentoring services can be one-on-one, group, peer, or a combination of these types. Applicants in all categories must initiate mentoring services to youth who are 17 years old or younger at the time of admission to the program. Funding can be used to support new mentoring matches or continue existing mentoring matches at the time of application.

Through this program, OJJDP seeks to improve and expand the development and implementation of training and technical assistance on effective responses to missing and exploited children's issues for multidisciplinary teams of prosecutors, state and local law enforcement, child protection personnel, medical providers, and other child-serving professionals. Additionally, this program will provide support for the implementation of all National Missing Children's Day activities.

OJJDP will award a cooperative agreement to continue the activities of the National Gang Center (NGC), which provides training and technical assistance to OJP-funded programs and communities across the country to address the issues of youth gun and gang violence. NGC tracks current research and trends on gangs and maintains a database of comprehensive information on the development and implementation of effective gang prevention, intervention, and suppression strategies. The Enhancing Juvenile Indigent Defense program will support states and localities in developing and implementing strategies to improve juvenile indigent defense. The goal of this program is to implement enhancements that improve juvenile indigent defense. Program objectives are to ensure that youth involved with the juvenile justice system have access to legal representation and access to resources that address the collateral consequences of justice system involvement.

This program will provide funding to support states and units of local government to develop programs within detention or correctional facilities to respond to the needs of incarcerated parents who have children younger than age 18. This program supports activities that foster positive family engagement between incarcerated parents and their children within detention and correctional facilities, and implement programs and services that support the children of incarcerated parents to reduce the likelihood of antisocial behaviors and future involvement in the juvenile justice system.

Pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 5633(d), if a state fails to submit a plan or submits a plan that does not meet the requirements of the JJDP Act, the OJJDP Administrator shall endeavor to make the Formula Grants program fund allocation available to local public or private nonprofit agencies within the state. The NPS program funds local public or private agencies to carry out activities that support compliance with the requirements of 42 U.S.C. 5633(a)(11), (12), and (13).
