The OJJDP Family Drug Court Program seeks to build the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to sustain existing family drug courts or establish new family drug courts. Category 1: Enhancing Family Drug Courts will support courts that are fully operational (for at least 1 year) to enhance services of existing family drug courts.

The Harrison County Family Intervention Program (FIP) will increase the number of parents successfully able to keep their children at home, with FIP as an element of the safety plan, or reunified with their child(ren) after receiving evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment for substance use disorders and familial resources from the FIP based upon assessment and development of individualized case plans. The FIP will accomplish its objective of continued evolution into an evidence-based, trauma-informed, family-centered program by accomplishing the following goals: (1) improve FIP policies, procedures, and practices to become a trauma-informed, evidence-based practice for FIP participants; (2) incorporate two certified peer support specialists into the FIP team who are trained in trauma-informed, evidence-based practices to provide support to participants and facilitate a support group; (3) develop a family-centered FIP that provides expanded access to and support to families through development of community partnerships and resources; (4) continue to develop in-house FIP resources to provide support to FIP participants; and (5) provide a transportation option to FIP participants to provide access to services.
